Arrest Affidavit Uncovers Details of Former MLB Star Rafael Furcal's Detention
Breaking: World Series champion Rafael Furcal arrested in Florida amid emerging details.

Rafael Furcal, a former Major League Baseball standout and three-time All-Star, was arrested on Wednesday in Florida on multiple felony counts, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and throwing deadly missiles into dwellings. According to an arrest affidavit, the incident began after Furcal, 47, and another driver narrowly avoided a car accident.
The two vehicles ended up near each other shortly after, at which point the situation reportedly escalated. Authorities say the alleged victim accused Furcal of picking up rocks from the ground and tossing them—along with a plastic bottle—at the victim’s truck while he remained inside. When the victim exited his vehicle, Furcal allegedly continued his assault, selecting a rock described as “the size of a small palm” and throwing it directly at the man.
Though the victim managed to shield his face with his hand, the rock caused lacerations. The affidavit notes that a confrontation followed, with the victim striking Furcal, who then left the scene. The victim told police he feared for his life during the altercation. Investigators have since booked Furcal on the following charges:
- Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon
- Throwing deadly missiles into dwellings, public or private
Furcal, who played 14 seasons in the major leagues, was a key figure on several teams throughout his career. He made his debut in 2000 with the Atlanta Braves, where he captured the National League Rookie of the Year Award. Furcal later played for the Los Angeles Dodgers before being traded during the 2011 season to the St. Louis Cardinals—a team with whom he would win his first and only World Series title that same year. He earned his third All-Star nod while with the Cardinals in 2012. The infielder retired after spending his final MLB year with the Miami Marlins in 2014. Over 1,614 games, Furcal compiled a .281 batting average with 587 runs batted in.
At this time, authorities have not released further details about Furcal’s bond or legal representation. The investigation remains ongoing.
