Democrat Dems Express Concerns Over Biden's Ability to Run for Re-Election: 'Obvious Now to Me'
Rep. Ro Khanna now asserts it's "obvious" President Biden was not in condition to seek reelection, contradicting his previous praise.

Rep. Ro Khanna, a Democrat from California, has publicly stated that it is now "obvious" to him that then-President Joe Biden was not fit to run for re-election in 2024. Khanna made these comments in a series of posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, where he called for greater honesty and transparency within the Democratic Party regarding Biden's candidacy.
"To rebuild trust, Democrats must be honest. In light of the facts that have come out, Joe Biden should not have run for reelection, and we should have had an open primary," Khanna posted, linking to his recent appearance on Fox News Channel’s "The Story." The congressman further emphasized that despite his own limited interactions with President Biden—where he found Biden to appear coherent—it has become clear to him through recent media reporting that the president "was not in a condition to run for reelection."
“We must be honest with people about our party’s mistake,” Khanna added in another post, highlighting the need for the party to acknowledge its missteps.
During his interview on "The Story," Khanna said that Democrats should openly admit the error in not pressing more strongly for Biden to step aside ahead of the 2024 election. Host Martha MacCallum presented Khanna with several clips of his earlier remarks describing Biden as "fully coherent" during this election cycle.
When questioned about whether those statements were truthful, Khanna responded, "I was," but conceded that he "did not have the full picture" at the time.
Other Democratic lawmakers have also recently addressed concerns about Biden's age and health. One Democratic senator stated there is "no doubt" that Biden experienced cognitive decline during his presidency, intensifying scrutiny over the decision to support his re-election bid.
Meanwhile, the Biden camp has pushed back against allegations of health coverups. During a recent appearance on "The View," both Joe and Jill Biden denied that the former president suffered significant cognitive decline, calling such stories "wrong." To date, neither Joe nor Jill Biden’s office has responded to requests for comment regarding Khanna’s remarks.
Biden’s cognitive health has become a focal point in both media coverage and political discourse as the Democratic Party confronts growing internal and external pressures ahead of the 2024 election. As more prominent voices within the party call for accountability and self-reflection, questions remain as to how the party will move forward and address concerns from both its base and the broader American public.
